Hair Product FETISH!!!!
I have a hair product fetish! *screams :-@
I buy hair products all the time and now that I am natural it has gotten worst.
At one point I had a flat iron fetish and had in possession up to 4 flat irons. Now I am down to 2 but I really only use 1; I'll do a review on it also. I have always enjoyed having black hair, and I love love love my nappy hair. Going natural was the best thing I could have done to have my hair grow healthier. No, I don't wear my nappy fro, it doesn't look right on me and I don't have the curly hair so I can't wet it and just go either. I have to take the time out just like if I had a perm and sit under the dryer, keep my hair moisturized and oiled or it will dry out and break off. That is what works for me. That is my style.
I can honestly say that I have bought most of these products in the last 3 months; with the exception of a few. I like to experiment with products. As long, as I don't go bald then everything is cool. Once I find the product that works best, I shall never leave it's side.
Let me start off with the expensive, has to work, salon proven, best of the best products first.
Matrix BioLage- Color Care Therape Price Range: $15 a bottle (sale) $30 in total
I purchased this shampoo and conditioner from a white salon in Savannah for my color and permed hair about 2 years ago. My Indian friend, also had color in her hair and we wanted a shampoo that would not take our hair out, nor dry it or make the color fade. I washed my hair for the first time and immediately in the sink I saw the color being rinsed out in the lather. After a while, I noticed the color faded and wasn't as vibrant as I first remembered it. The shampoo completely stripped my color, left my hair hair dryer than ever, hard and brittle. I asked my friend did she like it and she said no. It did the same thing to her hair. We both stopped using it and now I use the shampoo to clean out my brushes and combs for a squeaky clean look.
Nexxus- Therappe Shampoo and Humectress Conditioner Price Range $5-10 a bottle
Now, I was reading a book on black hair guide "Beautiful Black Hair: Real Solutions to Real Problems by Shamboosie and he constantly dropped Nexxus products throughout the book. Normally, I would look down the hair aisles and notice Nexus on the shelf and notice the price tag and mosey on down to the cheaper brand. But this time, me and my mom just so happened to be in Big Lots and saw the Nexus brand in there. Scooped it up. Now, if you know the background of Big Lots, then you are thinking that something was probably wrong with it; in which you are probably right but I feel like the product shouldn't be that defected and if it is, then it should not be sold in store. So we gave it a try. At the time, still had a semi perm and thought this was the best thing. It did make my hair soft and manageable. I still it now and I have noticed that the conditioner leaves my hair feeling like plastic. And especially when I rinse it out, it smells like plastic hair. I don't use it on my natural hair, I did however used it when I wore my weaves.
Parnevu T-Tree leave in conditioner Price Range $5
This was the leave in conditioner that I wanted to use when I wear my hair in it's natural curl. I wanted it to remain moisturize and have definite curls, in which it didn't. It left my hair feeling heavy and really didn't leave my hair bouncy like I wanted it too. I think if I had a perm this conditioner would work better but on my natural curls, this wasn't the best choice. I even tried diluting it in a water bottle with water and it didn't work either. So I wouldn't recommend this product and if you notice, it is always missing from the shelf.
Dr. Miracles "Feel It" Formula Hot Gro Price Range $10
Have you ever used Sulfur 8 grease before? The medicated kind, that left your hair smelling like medicine. And the person sitting behind you can smell your hair and the person behind them can smell your hair also. Well this product is similar to that. However, it works. My live testimony is my mom. She was going bald on the side of her hair, from stress and the hair dresser recommended the grease. And it did help her hair gain its growth. She when I cut my hair off and decided to go natural, in between my sew in, I greased my scalp and I promise I saw results immediately. I continued to use it for the middle of my scalp, where it is thinning and it is helping. Also, it has a great tingling feel to it. Especially, after washing your hair. OHHHHHH it feels clean and fresh. So, for natural and permed hair this is a great product.
This review is from products I have used before going natural. My next review will be on products that I have used while being natural. Stay tuned!
