The Collaborative Firm, LLC hosted its 10th Annual South Metro Development Outlook forum at the Georgia International Convention Center, the morning of February 9, 2012 for an event that specialized in connecting and networking professionals across the metro Atlanta counties. This year’s conference theme was “South Metro: Creating a path to the future through transportation” highlighting the possible development of a transit system to connect the metro areas.

The highlight session of the forum was on the Transportation Investment Act. If this bill is passed, it could funnel billions of dollars to transportation projects throughout the Atlanta region. This investment will be essential to improving transit facilities throughout the city and its’ surrounding areas and making Atlanta more competitive in attracting new investment.

The Collaborative Firm, LLC specializes in planning, program management and development and has been hosting the South Metro Development Outlook forum for 10 consecutive years serving the metro Atlanta area and its’ surrounding counties that include, Clayton, Douglas, Fayette, Henry, South Fulton and Cobb. The SMDO forum included mini conferences that featured key note speakers such as Eldrin Bell, Chairman, Clayton County Board of Commissioners; John Eaves, Chairman, Fulton County Board of Commissioners; Louis Miller, Aviation General Manager for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and a list of other county chairmen from the metro Atlanta counties to speak on future development within their county and joint projects.

At the chime of the bells, the conference participants leave and proceed to the next session. Dressed in suits with briefcase and portfolios in hand, I was able to catch one of the participants to ask a couple of questions. Yvette Cantrell, Bridgebuilders, Inc. says that attending the South Metro Development Outlook is one of her top events on her calendar. “I make sure that I make plans to attend this event," says Cantrell. "It allows me to network with other professionals and to speak with the county commissioners and pick their brain and they always give great information about the developments of the counties, and I am especially interested in the Transportation Investment Act that we have been discussing”, continues Cantrell on the event.

Michael Hightower, Host of the South Metro Development Outlook and Managing Partner of The Collaborating Firm, LLC, greeted participants as they mingled between sessions. “This man amazes me - he makes sure he speaks to everyone and some kind of way remembers participate names too,” says Bertha Smith, Delta Airline Attendant and fourth year attendee. “He makes sure that he maintains a personal relationship with the participants, so that they can always provide feedback so he can improve,” says Smith.
