A Year in Review - 2013
2013
Has ended.
Now it is
******2014******
I honestly thought that 2013 would be the best year. Things were truly looking up for me. Although I lost my favorite person in the entire world, my grandmother in December 2012, I figured that 2013 would be awesome. And indeed it was. Here's my recap.
Ok so starting off the year., with a Master degree in New Media Journalism from Full Sail!! Awesomeness.
Graduation day from Full Sail University. |
I brought the new year in with some friends and my family. We went to the LSU game and then church then hit Peters Street together. It was a fun and interesting night none the less. (Sidebar: I was told this story that the guy you spend NYE with will be the guy you will spend the entire year with. Ok. Yea that's a lie. I don't know why I believe those things! )

At that time I was working as a temp for an IT department.
I worked in the freezing file room between two metal cabinets,
hiding my heater behind the trashcan so no one would see it lol.
Didn't know where it was going but I did learn a lot about IT
and the workplace environment.

At work, working hard! |
Then I made my way down to Savannah for St. Patrick day to spend time with my linesisters and friends. We had a blast that weekend and it was a great stress reliever. Also my best friend Shy and her husband went to Savannah, her first time ever coming to Savannah. That was cool. That weekend, we were on some other ish... like for real. Overall, St. Patty in Savannah was so fun - so glad that I went down there that weekend.

So my "going no where job" ended up letting me go and boy did I cry!!! I prayed so hard and cried so hard to my God and He heard my cry. Literally. I was let go on Monday and hired somewhere else on Wednesday. I was as a temp in Human Resources. I was unsure as to were it would lead me but I knew that I needed to make the best out of this opportunity.
Working as a Human Resources Assistant. |
Then, in April - I brought my own car!!!! I took a leap out on faith and trusted God and listened and prayed to see if it was the correct decision for me to do and I did. I looked around and decided on a Nissan. And I love my car. I really do. It was a big decision so I had to put on my big girl pants.
At the car dealership, getting my papers from the salesmen and my new car! |
So in June, I went on the most amazing cruise with my family and absolutely loved it!! I volunteered time at an orphanage in the Bahamas and saw one of my mom's friends that we haven't seen in decades!!! I went to Atlantis and I went jet skiing and attempted to snorkel. HAHAHA!! That's a story and I am hooked on cruises. No cell phone. Just family, dancing, FOOD!!!! and the water. Geez, I can't wait to go another one.
Recap of the cruise! |
Then, in July I was hired as a full time employee working as a Human Resources Coordinator. THANK YOU GOD!!!! This opportunity has showed me that through faith, perseverance and diligence, that God will put you in situations that He knows is best for you.

Then I had tickets to Beyonce concert and was able to cross that off my bucket list!! Me and Nesha had a blast. We got all dolled up and dressed up very nicely and sang and danced all night. Oh yea baby!!

This year at homecoming, I was the chapter queen for SSU homecoming and rode on the trolley for the first time ever. I also attended some alumni events that I have never attended and really felt like an alumni. I am the Metro Atlanta Chapter Queen.

Three of my close Linesisters got engaged and I am truly happy for them. I'm excited about their weddings and their future. Whooooo hooooooo!!! #LuckyMen
Congrats Tannisha, Monye and Carmen!! |
I think 2013 I have changed my hair more than I can even count. Let's see.
Conclusion
I was on the phone with my best friend Ashley complaining about life and she asked - "Well are you were you were this time last year?"
*pause
*think
"No I am not."
"Well that is progress. Remember that."
Thanks!
Suddenly then, I was reminded to trust in His timing.
Now! Do not get me wrong. I have been questioning His timing all year so I am not going to front like I am this sanctified, scripture quoting, Holier-than-thou Christian - because I am not. I do however feel like I am a faithful servant to Him and I believe in His Promises and unchanging hand and that he will continue to bless me.
2013 was filled with a lot of crying nights and praying. The lost of a relationship and friendships was hard but then I am reminded that as long as they are breathing on this earth, if I miss them - call them and see how they are. Putting my pride aside.
2014 I welcome you!!! I welcome a better me and I can honestly say that I am not who I was this time last year and I look forward to more growth and progress in the upcoming year.
Buh Bye 2013
Hello... 2014
