I watched a movie last night called "The Very Thought of You." It was supposed to be a love story and comedy but I found it to be a messy triangle that happens 5 out of 10 times in real life and 9 out 10 times in college; especially at an HBCU. 1 girl and 3 guys who just so happen to be best friends, met randomly on separate occasions. While 2 of the guys actually begin to fall in love with her, 1 of them was just going through the motions. All of this falling in love from one random coincidence and after another. But in the end, 1 best friend gets her heart. She kept saying throughout the movie, that she was on the search for the 1 guy out of 10 million, which she just so happened to find, through 3 best friends. I believe everyone is also on this search. I know I had been on the search since I was in college, and was told "You'll find your husband in college." Today is World AIDS Day . For many years, this has been the hush hush virus. The thing no one wants to talk about. That is shun done upon and looked as the "homo" virus or the "whore" virus. But in actuality, it is none of that. Straight people have caught it. First timers have caught it. Even people who had never had sex have gotten the disease; through needles. I was a Peer Educator at Savannah State University, and that experience taught me a lot. I learned about all kinds of diseases that I didn't know ever existed and most importantly I learned about HIV and AIDS. I don't want to break it down and give a lesson. But I do want to say that it is out there. And just like a bullet has no name, HIV and AIDS has no name either. As a young black female, it is scary knowing that blacks are accounted for 14% of the USA population and carry 50% of the accounted AIDS cases. The stats 1 out 16 males carry the virus and then 1 out 32 w...
