The Word: Patience

Patience is the state of endurance under difficult circumstances, which can mean persevering in the face of delay or provocation without acting on annoyance/anger in a negative way; or exhibiting forbearance when under strain, especially when faced with longer term difficulties.

It's Just A Mixtape... then why?

Sammie, first introduced as a R&B artist, back in 1990 something with the single "I Like It" off the From the Bottom to the Top album, (okay 1999-2000 era to be exact) made middle schoolers heart throb. With his sweet innocent voice and lyrics, girls all around fell for the new R&B not quite then teenager. * Flashback I can actually hear the songs and remember the lyrics as I write this blog entry. Anywho , Sammie took a break along with N- Toon around that time and came back taller, stronger and in this case finer, and so did Lloyd. So as he mentioned in his intro to his mixtape , by the way he is rapping, I Wikipedia him and turns out Sammie will be putting out a third album later 2010. Did anyone remember the self title album "Sammie" he put out in 2006, with a hit such as "You should be my girl"? For some reason that song isn't ringing a flashback tune in my head, oh well. ( fyi : The tune eventually came back to me while proofreading f...

Learning, Living. Smiling

Its so funny... You never know how people are going to impact your life. People have motives that will either destroy, break or make you. Mission in life: How will you handle it? Will you break down and never get up because of one stab in the back? Or... Would you take the situation flip it around and make the best of it. Hell, there are people out there who have survived gun wounds, how do you think they do it? However, heart ache and betrayal; emotional pain. It's not like physical pain at all. For some reason it is deeper. Some take hardships and call them near death experiences, or near life experiences as a professor at SSU Kai Walker explains it. Near life experiences makes you see life in a totally different way; a new opportunity, a new life, whereas before this experience you might not have took chances and lived life very carefully and now this near life experience makes jumping out of plane a no thinker. Feel my drift? Sometimes we allow certain situations to take over u...

Being Greek? What does it mean?

Image
Side note: I battled back and forth with the title of this because I read something that quite disturbed me. It was about a death of a person wanting to be a member of an organization. I also was reading via twitter all the call outs and just unnecessary drama about being greek and had enough. So I battled, however, this battle could last for years. So I posted it and now I'm done with it.) Since I have graduated from SSU (Savannah State University, to be later called Swag State University), I can now look back on things and realize that what I thought mattered doesn't matter anymore; matter of fact, it doesn't matter at all. So let me start at the beginning. Since I was nine years old, I had an idea of wanting to "pledge" and knew exactly what sorority it was going to be. (How many of you can say that? No honestly. Exactly) However, as I got older the thought often drifted or was none the less just mentioned here and there. I never was the one to "brown nose...

I need a JOB!

Image
Now applying no' I'm hirable! no' Please hire me! no' Just say yes! Things I want to say to employers in my interviews but of course would be so inappropriate. (Photo: Something you don't see often.) So in the last month, I have read about 10 no's or going with the "better" candidate or you're simply not qualified emails that always ended "I know this may be disheartening" and "Good luck with your job search." Uh yes it is disheartening and quite depressing too. I wonder what do employers think when they send the rejection letters and how people respond to them. One particular position I was seeking, had me go through 3 interviews to tell me I wasn't qualified. So why in the h e double hockey sticks did you put me through them and why the if you seek do you have three interviews to put people through for this position? The first one wasn't enough... well clearly I guess not- I wasn't picked. However, I was finding my...

I never write about Black History Month nor do I ever write about black people in general but something has urged me to do so. As I sit in the living room and watch The Proposal with white actress Sandra Bullock and other white actors, no starring black roles; my mother sits in her room and watches The Lena Baker Story: the movie. Ever since I was younger, I never wanted to watch movies about Civil Rights or movies about slaves and such. Why? For the fear that I will grow up and hate whites; which I don't however, I have found myself often wondering and asking myself: Who the hell told them (whites) they were so great? Who the hell told them to treat Blacks like dirt and have no respect for us? Who they hell told them that they superior to all mankind? Who? And now the question is When? When will black people and other people of color realize their worth and value? I could sit down and watch Roots, and go in the room to watch the Lena Baker movie but all it will do is cause me to l...

Tears

Image
I feel like ish.... Shhhh...... I feel like crying... I want a tear to fall Down my cheek and off my chin And maybe just maybe It will land on something strong enough to handle it You wanna know what all is in my tears? Backed up emotions that were never let out Old memories from times that have past The hate and anger from a couple months of never letting go The broken heart that hasn't been put back together The body that will never be the same The ringing in the ears from all the shit you said The bruised fists from all the brick walls Times when I thought it couldn't get any worse and then it did Lonely nights just wishing I had an ear or just a shoulder or an arm... Memories of the good, the bad and the what was I thinking All of this is in MY tears... I've cried so much that it hurts to cry My tears are tearing through my lids Burning to get out Of the eyes that have seen heartache Even when they are shut Then the dreams come alive... Tears flowing down the river of m...
