My dear sweet pea  I’m so sorry I neglected you  I’m sorry  I was so scared of you and for you  I was nervous  I was shocked  Please forgive me as I was unsure of the life I could provide you  Your spirit lives on with me and I pray we meet again

Wrong Person

Took a trip Vegas with my mom and I was looking at other couples like: Awwww,  I wanna go on a couples trip to Vegas -not remembering that I went on, not only one but two couples trips and the recent one being only 6 months ago.  Break ups are hard. Right?  It’s like especially the longer you have been with someone. Realizing and needing to understand that people literally come into our lives for reasons and seasons.  He’s always been around. Been stuck in the back pocket - but so have I. I allowed myself to constantly be accessible as well. However, I knew this was last time though. This was the final straw. I’m not the type to have male friends like that, especially at this point in my life. And this one, we dated in the past for some reason always kept in touch; things always ended nicely, so he remained a constant what if.  Well the final time came along but unfortunately it still wasn’t right. And I knew it. I knew it wasn’t right but I had SOMETHING to pro...

Hiatus Up

Soooooooo....  The Hiatus is up. The writing is back. I am getting back to me from years ago. I never thought I would go through this type of journey but I realized the hold up was very simple. Me; and a laptop. My Macbook is soooo old and needed to be updated and I didn't want to use my work laptop to blog so.... I went to Best Buy, purchased the least inexpensive laptop and I feel revived!! I have so much to share! So much to type and so much to express; just so much. These last couple of months, hell years have been extremely crazy! The world shut down. We went through a pandemic. People lost lives, jobs, everything but as life teaches us, it must go on.  I am ready to share.  THE GOOD and the BAD and UGLY  Whew - enjoy these pieces

Retired educator speaks on integration

Originally posted on April 15, 2012 Being a teacher was an honor and one of the most respectable career paths that anyone could choose. Henry Clay Garner, retired educator, integrated the Clayton County Public Schools system and has made a positive impact on students while being an educator. Growing up on the farm in a one-story, wooden frame house, with three bedrooms, Garner had to share his room with his two older brothers as well as depend of them for helping out in the field. Having a childhood memory of hunting, fishing, rambling through the woods and walking along the railroad track...

29 Years of Fears

In my 29 years of life, the only thing that has remained constant was change. Change. Nothing remained the same. Nothing.  My friends, my living situation, my job, my body especially my hair. Everything seem to change. Sometime for the better, some for the worse. My body - worse. My hair - better. My friends - ehhh better. My job - better. My love life - worse. *Random Rant Moment. If you noticed, well to my 5 followers if they are still on here, I haven't written a post in awhile. I have a huge fear. The fear of what other people think and say and how I use that to validate the importance of life. My life is not the most entertaining. Actually it's quite redundant and repetitive. Same old Love story, different characters. Always ending.- In heartbreak. I met this amazing guy on New Years Day. He had me thinking this was it. I had him thinking, I was it. We had each other fooled. But I will say this, if, IF, I would have known the outcome would be this, I would ...

Remember that Deniscia

I am female. This I know. And I am 110% deserving of being treated with respect. No arguing. No disrespect No being rude Hear me out No don't use your ears Use your heart and try to listen Listen to my every word Get in your feelings Listen with understanding Not to respond No to Retaliate But to find a solution I am not out to get you I am not against you I am with you As your friend Your counterpart I know that this may be hard Not just for you but for both of us But we can get through this together Where's the balance? I am putting in all the work And getting nothing in return Sacrificing everything And settlling The reality of it is No relationship is going to be perfect But what exactly is perfect I love myself to much to be in a disrespectful relationship. Remember that Deniscia I have come toooooo far to retro back. Stay strong. Don't cry. Don't get hurt. No matter what. I like him but I love myself more. This is who I am. ...

A Year in Review - 2013

Image
2013 Has ended.   Now it is   ******2014****** I honestly thought that 2013 would be the best year. Things were truly looking up for me. Although I lost my favorite person in the entire world, my grandmother in December 2012, I figured that 2013 would be awesome. And indeed it was. Here's my recap. Ok so starting off the year., with a Master degree in New Media Journalism from Full Sail!! Awesomeness. Graduation day from Full Sail University. I brought the new year in with some friends and my family. We went to the LSU game and then church then hit Peters Street together. It was a fun and interesting night none the less. (Sidebar: I was told this story that the guy you spend NYE with will be the guy you will spend the entire year with. Ok. Yea that's a lie. I don't know why I believe those things! ) Friends at New Year's Eve events So then I had this like amazing 26th birthday with the most amazing friends ever and had a blast!! Looking bac...

My Father

Image
If you look into my eyes can you read my story? Can you feel my pain? Can you see my true happiness? I'm not perfect I have plenty of flaws. Wanting to be accepted and not judged for a past that was out of my control is quite unfair. I can't help the way the cookie crumbled. Or which end of the stick I got. Life just happened. Broken hearted. Hurt feelings. The pain may reappear every now and then and sting, hurt like hell but for me to still say it's ok at the end takes a lot of strength a weak man will never understand. Only a strong minded man will be there for me and say "It's ok. I won't leave. I'm here to stay." And that is you. My God. Thank you for always being there. For hearing my cry. Wiping my eyes and saying "My child it will be ok." Thank you God, my Father which art in Heaven. For continuously watching over me and setting the example for me.  Your unconditional love and overflowing of blessings. ...

I lost my most favorite person in the world. My grandmother. I didn't see the day coming and it hit me like a brick wall. I cried for days and nights thinking that would ease the pain But it didn't I prayed for understanding and guidance as to why God needed to take her away from me And slowly He assured me that He needed her so that she can be my guardian angel. I am still confused as to why so soon I am still lost as to why her I miss her with all my might and soul and strength. I feel like my life is no longer worth living for. Everything I did, I did for her It's so hard to lose someone you love, adore and admire to death because it's out of your control. I pray that I regain strength to carry out life in honor of her and for her That I embrace my new guardian angel I love you Grandma and miss you here on Earth -Denii  Rest In Heaven Grandma  December 18, 2012

Being a black woman in America

(Foreward: I wrote this post sometime last year - mid summer probably and it stayed in my "drafts" ever since. Never touching it. Browsing on Facebook I came across an entry on For Harriet about being comfortable in your own (black) skin. God's timing could not have been more perfect.) As I read from Essence Magazine an article about black women being successful, it hit me like I need to vent. I was hanging out with my friends this weekend and we ended up on the subject about black women. The topic was US. This has been a topic lately that a lot of my friends have been discussing. Being a black woman in America. Being a single black woman as well and how hard it is to have a man. Now the girl I was with was in relationship and said it herself that black women are at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to dating, last picking in the work place and not considered as beautiful. To hear her say that was shocking to me. I also had ...

No mistakes

God makes no mistakes. When I tell you everything happens for a reason and if you put your trust in Him, He will always lead you down the correct path. Whether you agree or you may question, if you trust Him, he will not steer you wrong.

A Neccessay Change

I changed careers. Does it make me a sell out to the communications field? Or a loser for given up of communications? Maybe. Possibly. However, after receiving my degree in Mass Communications in 2009 and the constant downhill battle of finding a job, I was constantly denied and ultimately in my mind failed. Here I was a woman who has a clean background, went to school, completed the internship, was the executive editor of the newspaper, networked as much as I could, has the experiences and still never got an interview. What was I doing wrong for 4 years of the premiere of my potential career? I have no clue. I applied to numerous communications specialist jobs, editorial assistant jobs, communications managers, social media coordinator, even went the teacher route and applied for a couple of teaching fellows and Teach for America (three times!) but never landed the job. For years I was in this battle and even worked on a Masters degree in Journalism to only find ...

My Love for You

Image
"As I Look Back Over My Life" That song has been on repeat in my mind the past few days - maybe because I turned 26 and it's such a catchy song. If I can find it, I will put it in the link to the title. I look at the people God has blessed me with. The ones that have stayed and the ones that have left. This birthday celebration at Wet Willies, I looked around the table and I smiled so hard because I had my some of my best friends with me. Two seats were occupied of women that I have known over 10 years! One seat, a man that I have known for 10 years and we have all watched each other grow and mature. The other seats were newly acquired friends from college and I have watch them mature as well.  I am amazed at where we all are in our lives and thought, this was no mistake. God did this on purpose. He purposely and strategically placed these people in my life at that time so that we can lean on each other for support (literally) and encourage each other and la...

What are we to do?

But what are we to do? Make having the right to bear guns illegal? Crack down on who is able to own a gun? Increase the fee to have a gun? Does the government a.k.a."Uncle Sam" really have control over this issue? Admendment #2 The right to bear arms How can we go back in time to change this freedom, this right? Is it plausible? These were the questions that came to my mind after reading this article on Clutch Magazine website called "What Else Will It Take Before America Breaks Its Addiction to Guns?" We all know this story to well by now. Guns in America is becoming a hot topic. Not gun by race but in America. How long will it take before America, the land of the free become a War Country fighting amongst themselves, killing their own people, destroying their own cities, like the other countries before we take a stand on gun control? There once was time where you could not watch gun violence on public television, that was exclusively fo...
